Good ol' Christian Music

There is nothing like good Christian music, and in the Christian life that is one important thing that every Christian needs to encourage themselves. Bible reading, your devotional life, prayer, and Christian fellowship, church attendance are more important, but the Bible tells us in Colossians 3:16, "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

There have been many times when I have been discouraged and listened to a spiritual song and had my heart encouraged and kept my eyes fixed on Jesus. It's from our hymns that new converts can learn the basic doctrine of the holiness of God, the Blood of Jesus, the Cross, and the resurrection of our Lord, etc. Also, it is one way for us to praise the Lord for what He has done for us. Ephesians 5:19-20, "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

How do I know what is the right kind of music? As Christians, we must use the doctrine of replacement! When we were unsaved, we listened to the world's music, but the Bible says that now we are new creatures, old things are passed away, ALL THINGS ARE NEW! (2 Corinthians 5:17) The easiest way to determine if my music is right or up to God's standard is to compare it to the world's standard. Does it have the worldly beat of the rock music or country music? Does it cause me to want to move in a wrong way? Does it cause me to have fleshly desires? If I take the words away from a Christian Contemporary song, can you tell whether it is a Christian song? Is there a doubt? If there is a doubt don't do it! Now that you have determined what is right or wrong...or if you can't figure that out, ask your pastor to listen your music! Also, if you are ashamed for your pastor or Sunday school teacher or someone in spiritual authority in your life to listen to your music, something should be ringing a bell!
So where do I find good music? actually I'd like to say GREAT music! The video above is a group from West Coast Baptist College, called Streams in the Desert. You can find great music from there school by clicking the link. Also, Faith Music Missions is a great source for GREAT music and also Great books! One more is Majesty Music!
Encourage yourself in the Lord today!

Praise the Lord! I love finding people who listen to Godly music! Coming from a background of punk rock and screamo bands...I delight in the fact that "Old things are passed away, All things are new." Your blog is such an encouragement! Keep it up!!! :)
