Another Great Post by Mrs. Fink...for Single Ladies...

I was looking through the different blogs that I follow, and this post by Mrs. Fink caught my eyes! Very good post!

I Know You Really Want a Husband, But are you Really Ready to be a Wife?

As a Pastor's Wife and Ladies Ministry Coordinator, I have the privilege and opportunity to know the desire of many of the ladies that go to our church, live in our community, and visit our web-site and blogs from all around the world. And believe it or not, not all the ladies that I minister to are married ladies ~ many of them are single women that are desperately desiring to be married.

Now, some of these ladies are widowed, some are divorced and some have never been married at all. And although I certainly believe that the Bible addresses the scriptural "marriageability" of each one of these ladies, my first thought when I listen to them share their desire is this . . . "I know you really want a husband, but are you really ready to be a wife."

You see, in our culture, the truth of the matter is that a woman wanting a husband is not usually the same thing as a woman wanting to be a wife.

The woman that wants a husband is looking for a knight in shining armour that is going to be willing to ride up and rescue her from her financial responsibilities, sweep her off her lonely feet and take her with him beyond the sunset and all those other kinds of things that we often imagine that one of those great kinds of guys want to do.

This woman wants a husband because she is looking for someone to help her in this life . . . but what she doesn't really understand is that the man she is looking for is interested in her being something to him too . . . and that is a wife.

What is a wife? She is someone that is a help meet to her man. She is someone that a her man can count on to be his best team player and his greatest cheerleader at the same time. She is someone that will be submissive to his leadership and helpful to his agenda. She is someone that will work hard to take care of the things her husband provides and to work hard behind the scenes so that his name and reputation will be the one most popularly known.

Most of the single women I know really do wish God would bring them a good husband, but you know what? Not many of them are in the least prepared to be a good wife.

How do you know if you are prepared to be a good wife?

1. You are willing to be helpful to those that are in authority right now in your life. Genesis 2:18 says, "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." How can you tell if you are helpful in this area or not? Ask your boss. Ask your Pastor. Ask your father. Ask your Sunday School teacher, Nursery Coordinator, or anybody else that you serve under in your life. This may surprise you, but the reason that many single women have a hard time finding a husband (or lose one after they are married) is because the men that they meet see that they have no desire to be a helpful wife. A woman's responsibility in marriage is more than just getting to hug and kiss and do those fun things in the bed. It's mostly about being a help. And being a help to men is something that every woman can be practicing on a daily basis whether they are married to one or not.

2. You are willing to be submissive to the authorities right now in your life. Let's face it, life is filled with people and rules that God has given the right to tell us what to do. There are traffic signs and lights and speed limits to obey. There are bosses and fathers and Pastors and ministry leader to yield to. And God uses even things like inclement weather, personal tragedies and other sorts of natural disasters to bring us in line with His path, direction and lead. Women were made to support authority. I know that this thought is something that ruffles some women's feathers ~ but according to the Word of God, the truth is the truth, whether we like it and agree with it or not. Wives are commanded by God to be submissive to their own husbands and here are a couple verses to prove it:

Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord."

Titus 2:4-5, "That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

3. You are willing to lay aside your own desire to be praised and well known and the center of attention and spend your days doing all you can so that those that are in authority over you are praised, well known and the center of attention. The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 31 that the husband of the virtuous woman is the one that is known in the city gates ~ not her. We live in a day and age where most women don't want to here that sort of thing. Most women today are looking to be the most praised at home and the most well known outside of the home.

"But all I want is a husband," one woman said kiddingly after I reminded her of the reality of all of this with her one day, "I didn't say I wanted to be a good wife :)."

If you want to be a happily married woman forever and ever some day in your life . . . make sure you do more than just find yourself a good husband . . . make sure you prepare yourself to be his good wife ♥.

For Your Enjoyment!
